Field of Research : Tropical and Infectious Diseases

Preliminary Research Design : Others

Preliminary Research Type : Applied

Preliminary Justification : Covid-19 disease attracted the global attention since December 2019 as it is a newly emerged respiratory viral disease with the ability to spread widely and rapidly. With the abrupt increase in case number and death toll across the world, the disease evolves into a considerable challenging clinical problem. Closely collaborating with WHO, CDC and other scientific bodies, clinicians and scientists from various communities are finding a way to know more about the infection in terms of its infectivity, transmission, pathogenesis, management etc. At present, the end of disease as a pandemic and major public health problem is still far distant from reality as diverse clinical trials on antivirals, immunomodulatory drugs and convalescent plasma are ongoing to discover the proven impressive treatment. Hence, it is high time to carry out local studies as three covid-19 medical centers have been established in Myanmar. With the intention of contributing local data for epidemiological containment and development of safer management, the present study aims to find out the clinical, laboratory, radiological parameters, therapeutic options and outcome of the confirmed covid-19 patients admitted to South Okkalapa Specialist Hospital since April, 2020. Hopefully, this study might provide valuable help for medical professionals in combating this terrible disease.

Preliminary Aim : To determine the clinical parameters and factors associated with prolong viral shedding and disease progression among patients with COVID-19 admitted to South Okkalapa Specialist Hospital

Preliminary Objectives : 1. To assess the clinical parameters of patients with confirmed COVID-19 admitted to South Okkalapa Specialist Hospital during the study period 2. To find out the outcome of patients with confirmed COVID-19 admitted to South Okkalapa Specialist Hospital during the study period 3. To compare the clinical parameters between asymptomatic and symptomatic study patients 4. To determine the factors associated with prolong viral shedding among the study patients 5. To determine the factors associated with disease progression among the study patients

Preliminary Sample Size : All confirmed COVID-19 positive patients admitted to the South Okkalapa Specialist Hospital between April, 2020 to September, 2020.

Preliminary Study Duration : Total study period will be 6 months (April, 2020 to September, 2020) after approval of Institutional Review Board of Department of Medical Research, Ministry of Health and Sports.

Preliminary Study Area : This study will be conducted at the COVID-19 treatment center of the South Okkalapa Specialist Hospital.

Preliminary Study Method : Patient will be explained about the procedure. Written informed consent from patient or guardian will be requested. Relevant data from history taking and physical examination will be recorded since admission until discharged. Laboratory parameters, radiological finding, treatment and outcome of patients (according to protocol of South Okkalapa Specialist Hospital) will be record serially during hospitalization until follow up.
