Title of Research : Reliability, Validity and Responsiveness of Mini-Balance Evaluation System Test (Mini-BESTest) in Type 2 Diabetic Patients with Peripheral Neuropathy

Field of Research : Physiotherapy

Preliminary Research Design : Others

Preliminary Research Type : Basic

Preliminary Justification : Mini-BESTest, the short form of BESTest, is a simple, non-invasive, and can assess balance control systems by using four domain items and the moderate to high correlation between this two balance were found in previous studies of different population such as stroke, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis or elderly population. However, the correlation of BESTest and Mini-BESTest is still needed to study the balance performance in population with type 2 diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Moreover, although responsiveness of Mini-BESTest was studied in other population, it is still needed to study in population with type 2 diabetic peripheral neuropathy.

Preliminary Aim : The aim of this study is to investigate the inter rater and intra rater reliability of Mini-BESTest and concurrent validity of Mini BESTest with BESTest, and responsiveness of Mini-BESTest after four weeks intervention related to an external criterion of Global Rating of Change (GRC) scale in type 2 diabetic patients with peripheral neuropathy

Preliminary Objectives : To investigate the inter rater and intra rater reliability of Mini-BESTest and concurrent validity of Mini BESTest with BESTest, and responsiveness of Mini-BESTest after four weeks intervention related to an external criterion of Global Rating of Change (GRC) scale in type 2 diabetic patients with peripheral neuropathy

Preliminary Sample Size : 44 participants for reliability and validity study and 48 participants for responsiveness and population will be Type 2 diabetic patients with peripheral neuropathy

Preliminary Study Duration : one week for reliability and validity study, and 4 weeks for responsiveness study

Preliminary Study Area : Department of Diabetic and Endocrinology, North okkalapa general hosputal

Preliminary Study Method : Observational for reliability and validity , Interventional study for responsiveness
