Preliminary Justification : WHO estimated that probability of dying between age 30 years old and 70 years old in South East Asia region from four major NCDs was about 23.2% in 2015. Myanmar is a developing country along with demographic and epidemiological transitions, and now facing with double burdens of both communicable and non-communicable diseases due to socioeconomic and life style changes. The prevalence of hypertension is Myanmar is 21.5% in 2014. Hypertension, the silent killer, is a preventable disease, so to encourage the awareness of hypertension and danger of its complications become important for prevention and control of hypertension. By avoiding risk factors; such as eating unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, smoking, and alcohol drinking will lead to prevent hypertension and its complications (WHO, 2014). Therefore, raising public awareness in both rural and urban areas is playing an important role. In Myanmar, proportion of hypertension per 1000 above 15 years population is 5.3 in Mandalay which is higher than Rakhine, Yangon and Chin (Department of Public Health, 2015). In every family, the role of housewives is very important. Nutrition factors of family are mainly depend on housewives of family. The level of awareness and daily preventive practice on prevention among housewives affect health status of whole family including children and hypertensive patients. By promoting awareness and preventive practice on hypertension among housewives, she can manage her family to eat healthy diet such as consumption of diet which contain less salt and fat, more fruits and vegetables. As a result, family members including hypertensive patients and children can be on consumption of healthy diet. Children in this family can also acquire the habit of eating healthy diet and healthy life style since childhood and complication of hypertension can also be preventive for family members with hypertension. Therefore, this study will help to raise the awareness on hypertension and practice on healthy living style among housewives in both urban and rural populations. It is important to identify awareness and preventive practice on f hypertension among housewives to raise the healthy life style in family. It is expected that the results of this study may provide insight into awareness and preventive practice on hypertension among housewives. Therefore, it has potential to heighten awareness for the need to improve the prevention of hypertension.
 
Preliminary Aim : To study the awareness and preventive practice on hypertension among housewives in urban and rural areas of Pyin Oo Lwin Township
 
Preliminary Objectives : 1. To find out the prevalence of hypertension among housewives 2. To determine the awareness on risk factors of hypertension among housewives 3. To assess the preventive practice on hypertension among housewives 4. To find out relations with socio-demographic factors and awareness and preventive practice on hypertension among housewives 5.To explore the challenges on prevention of hypertension among housewives
 
Preliminary Sample Size : The study population will be housewives above 18 years of age in urban and rural areas of Pyi Oo Lwin Township. Sample size will be 165 in numbers
 
Preliminary Study Duration : August to September
 
Preliminary Study Area : The study area will be urban and rural area of Pyin Oo Lwin township.
 
Preliminary Study Method : Study design will be mixed method. For quantitative study, cross sectional descriptive study design will be used. For qualitative study, in depth interview will be used.
