: |
WHO stated that aflatoxin pose a significant economic burden and a serious health
threat to humans and livestock, causing an estimated 25% of or more of the world’s food
crops to be destroyed annually. Since Magway is a tropical region and well known for its
peanuts and peanut derived products, people here use peanuts for different purposes. Most
of farmers, food handlers and processors have little knowledge on these aspects. Moreover,
information on the prevalence of aflatoxins in this area is limited. Thus, this study will
provide a baseline data for levels of aflatoxins in peanuts and its derived products. In
addition, this study will also assess the awareness of aflatoxins among peanut shop keepers
in Magway Township. |
