Title of Research : Effect of the mindfulness-based program on perceived stress, anxiety and satisfaction among nurse aid training students under tertiary hospitals, Myanmar

Field of Research : Administration and Management

Preliminary Research Design : Experimental Study

Preliminary Research Type : Applied

Preliminary Justification : Patient care is being delivered to patients in all hospitals across the nation with limited manpower of health care professionals currently in Myanmar. To fill the gap of nurse requirement in hospital, the Ministry of Health has launched a nurse aid training program on January, 2021. Nurse aid students have got certified only after 9 months training program conducted in tertiary hospitals under the Department of Medical Services, the Ministry of Health. The shortest way to born health manpower in the current human resources setting is to emphasize nurse aid students’ population compared to nurses. The majority of nurse aid students will suffer under stress, anxiety and unsatisfaction to go forward into in-service at hospitals. This is an introduction of the mindfulness-based program to nurse aid training students in tertiary hospitals so as to be able to cope with whatever stress they have to face in the training and overcome the challenges. By doing so they would be complete the 9 months training program without attrition and hope to enter government service.

Preliminary Aim : To determine effect of the mindfulness-based program on perceived stress, anxiety and satisfaction among nurse aid training students under tertiary hospitals, Myanmar.

Preliminary Objectives : (1) To assess the efficacy of mindfulness meditation among nurse aid training students before and after 8 weeks of intervention and follow up 8 weeks within the intervention group. (2) To compare the mean difference of perceived stress scores, generalized anxiety scores and satisfaction with life scores among nurse aid training students within and between intervention and control groups before and after 8 weeks of intervention (3) To compare the mean difference of serum cortisol level among nurse aid training students within and between intervention and control groups before and after 8 weeks of intervention. (4) To compare the mean difference-in-difference of perceived stress scores, generalized anxiety scores and satisfaction with life scores among nurse aid training students between intervention and control groups before and after followed up 8 weeks.

Preliminary Sample Size : 53 nurse aid training students in intervention group and 46 in control group

Preliminary Study Duration : November 2022 to February 2023

Preliminary Study Area : Monwya General Hosptial (500 bedded) and Mandalay General Hospital (1500 bedded).

Preliminary Research Finding : Difference in Mean score of the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale(MAAS), the Perceived Stressed Scale(PSS), the Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD), the Satisfaction with life Scale(SWLS) and serum cortisol level
